From the NO. 1 to Number One!
The edding success story began with the edding NO. 1 in 1960, when two gentlemen by the name of Mr Edding and Mr Ledermann had the brilliant idea of creating a completely new range of markers from a simple felt-tip pen to enable marking and writing in bright and beautiful colours.
Their first product, the legendary "all-round marker edding NO. 1", thus became the forerunner of whole generations of markers.
The second masterstroke followed in 1965. The edding "planMASTER" brand was born, with products for planning and visual communication. Its success led to a host of changes: edding moved out of Hamburg in 1970 and into the surrounding countryside, relocating to the town of Ahrensburg. In 1986, the company was successfully floated on the stock exchange, and edding Japan Inc. was founded as an independent purchasing organisation and Asian subsidiary.
The take-over of Dutch firm LEGA on 01.01.1998 saw the emergence of a new dimension within the industry for visual communication product ranges: planMASTER Lega. The combined range is now managed and marketed internationally under the Legamaster name by edding Aktiengesellschaft.
The acquisition of two further production sites in Argentina and in Italy represents a further boost to the capacity of the Group in Europe and beyond. Additional sales opportunities are to be had from the acquisition of new companies and from close collaboration enjoyed with partner brands, such as UHU and Läufer, to cover sales channels not hitherto addressed.
